José Figueroa Garcia from Spain is a true spiritual nomad who has studied a long time spiritual traditions and healing techniques across different continents. He has now distilled his teachings into three key concepts: intuition, compassion, and awareness. He has also shared the wisdom arising from these with many Finns.

The charismatic therapist and spiritual coach, born in Tenerife 46 years ago, has grown fond of Finland. He was heard at the ‘Pyhä Jyssäys’ fair in November, and more training sessions are planned for the coming months.

At the age of 14, José, on his home island, met a Western esoteric master who became his teacher. Over two years, this master provided the schoolboy with a broad foundation in spirituality. ‘In those two years, I learned a lot about chakras, astral travel, energy work, and similar topics. While others at school were reading Don Quixote, I was reading the works of Lobsang Rampa,’ José laughs.

His next teacher was an energy healer, ritual magician, and astrologer, who guided José towards healing energies and techniques. Thus, at a young age, he received initiation into spiritual teachings from two different paths. However, at 18, José decided to temporarily ‘close the door’ on his esoteric studies. ‘I couldn’t take in any more at that time. Some of the things I saw were also frightening, and I wasn’t ready for all of it. It was time to live the life of a normal young man as well. But spirituality remained within me as a hobby, and I continued working on myself.’

Later, life took the young Spaniard to work as a journalist for Japanese and Spanish TV and the BBC. José lived in England for ten years, where his then- girlfriend introduced him to Bach flower remedies. Journalism was very stressful, and the remedies brought great relief.

Following in Bach’s footsteps

The flower remedies developed by the English doctor Edward Bach (1886- 1936) became, over the decades, a very important element in José’s therapeutic work with thousands of people. In addition to the remedies, he particularly mentions Reiki. He has studied both Reiki and the remedies in depth, both in theory and practice.

‘I use Bach’s remedies from a deeply psychological and emotional perspective. These remedies have an immediate and direct effect on an individual’s psychological state, but also on their physical state. Bach’s system is very deep, magical, and beautiful, and these remedies represent certain archetypal energies within us as human beings.’

According to José, Bach was extremely ingenious and understood the archetypes of human nature, which have thousands of psychological faces. He mapped and condensed these extremely complex psychological archetypes into 38 remedies he developed. In the opinion of this Spanish spiritual nomad, a statue should be erected in Bach’s honor. ‘Bach understood that many aspects of human life are rooted in fear, which paralyzes, and desire, which propels a person forward. Bach’s remedies can quickly trigger massive personal development in an individual. In my combinations, I use 5-7 remedies, no more. Of course, these remedies aren’t a solution to everything, as we are very complex beings. However, Bach’s remedies represent a beautiful, safe, and direct way to overcome things that people have considered impossible to conquer.’

Mikao Usui was a great engineer of the Spirit.

Bach himself repeatedly emphasized: do not allopathize, meaning don’t just look at the symptoms-look at the person. There is still much to explore. Every country has plants that can be used as remedies. José favors Bach’s flower remedies because their range of use is broad. Someone well-versed in Bach’s drops can also ‘diagnose’ the spiritual challenges typical to a nation by examining the plants native to that country.

The Hidden Side of Reiki

José considers himself a specialist who has focused on only a few areas, in which he has aimed to go sufficiently deep. He has studied Reiki Master level in eight different Reiki lineages, five of which are Japanese, two Tibetan, and one the traditional Usui lineage. However, when it comes to Reiki, he is somewhat of a ‘dissenter.’ The Spanish spiritual nomad notes that there are still many depths to Reiki that Westerners-and even some Japanese-have not yet discovered.

José himself has explored this hidden side of Reiki in Japan. Reiki entered José’s life during a major personal crisis and helped him immensely.

‘Reiki is not what people think it is. This is even true for some Japanese Reiki masters who do not know the true story behind Reiki, its ancient tradition, and deep roots. For political and religious reasons, the origin of Reiki was kept secret. Reiki is a mystery that only began to reveal itself to me when I went to Japan to learn it deeply. Before that, I had received initiations into both Western and Eastern esoteric traditions. To understand Reiki, according to José, a therapist must grasp Taoist magic, Japanese syncretism, Shinto, tantric Buddhism, shamanism, and many other things. Only then can one begin to see and understand what the revitalizer of the Reiki tradition, Mikao Usui (1865-1926), achieved. Usui himself had deep knowledge of metaphysics. José even refers to Usui as the Great Engineer of the Spirit. José believes that when something is deep and truthful enough, it is also universal. Thus, Reiki-though developed in Japan-works
universally. All esoteric traditions have the same core. Only the symbols, stories, and observations change; the essence remains the same.”‘

Embracing Wholeness

The Spanish master views the integration of holistic and energy medicine with conventional medical professionals and institutions as a primary and essential part of his work. He has introduced and helped establish expanded healthcare programs and training in hospitals and other healthcare institutions worldwide, including those specializing in cancer and fibromyalgia.

Among José’s most significant projects is coordinating a Reiki program at the Duran i Reynals Oncology Hospital near Barcelona, which is one of the leading international institutions for cancer treatment.

In his own therapeutic practice, José utilizes, among other techniques, his powerful, penetrating voice. He connects his sound work to ancient traditions, incantations, and mantras that he has learned from various cultures.

At the Pyhä Jyssäys fair, José's workshop was one of the most popular events.

During his visits to Finland, the Spanish therapist has met, among others, Heikki Jylhä, a practitioner of the traditional Kustavi bone setting and the last expert in Finnish secret incantations. José has recognized him as a kindred spirit whose work he hopes many Finns will become acquainted with.

José believes in the profound therapeutic effects of sound and music, and he uses his voice in various ways during his therapy sessions. José himself developed a love for classical music through his father at a young age.

‘The music of great masters helps us to evolve both psychologically and intellectually. Additionally, it aids us in taming our primal instincts. Masters like Beethoven, Mozart, Chopin, and Liszt came to our planet to teach us to listen to the music of the spheres and to elevate our consciousness, bringing us closer to the Creator.’

Expeditions into Consciousness

José has been holding seminars around the world for ten years, helping people understand their own soul lessons and various archetypes that can be seen in people themselves. His travels have taken him to different corners of the globe and various cultures. In the fall, he was teaching extensively in Mexico, which in his esoteric tradition is considered a kind of ‘new Tibet.”I have met countless people in my seminars who have a genuine desire to grow and develop and who wish to help others selflessly, but the tools they have at their disposal often work against them. They can even lead them into significant difficulties.

Additionally, we live in a time when many seek an all-knowing, enlightened guru for themselves. However, the only teacher you truly need is the one who helps you find yourself. We should not search for a teacher outside ourselves, but within, as Buddha said 2,500 years ago.’ José is currently writing a book about his own experiences, teachings, and the karmic and soul lessons that people encounter.

‘I now guide people on expeditions into consciousness, its secrets and traditions, and ancient sacred magic. I help people integrate these teachings with modern transpersonal psychology and natural medicine. I also lead them into the secrets of compassion and its energetic aspect, its oral tradition, and how all of this could be part of their lives.

In my teachings, I help people discover a powerful empowerment that enhances their intuition in unity with the night. I explain the laws governing intuition and how it functions naturally. My aim is to lead people onto the hidden path of intuitive healing. I share ancient secrets on how to understand and handle this gift and how to make it work in healing sessions and in their own lives.

Everything is connected to everything else. My teachings specifically address understanding where all these things intersect and how both the micro and macrocosm manifest in these three areas: intuition, compassion, and awareness.
